Thomas the big strong boy!

I can't believe Thomas is three months old. They grow so quickly!!! He is also really strong, I can't believe all the things he is able to do already. He is almost sitting up all by himself. All of these pictures were taken of Thomas within the past week. So many milestones all at once!!

Adriana sat him down the other night and he was sitting by himself for about a minute. I find that very scary!!!

Thomas' tummy time, he pulls up his head!!! As long as he is not crawling I'm happy. :)

Thomas the day after Christmas sitting on the couch Nana gave him and James. I can't believe he is playing with toys. He really likes that train he was given by Nana.

He is too little to love his exersaucer isn't he?!?! Don't tell him that he loves hanging out in it and even plays with some of the toys.

On the Second Day of Christmas

The Niall Family was supposed to come to see us but again we had to change our plans becuase of the weather!!! Got to love snow. We were in the house all day cleaning Adriana's room but we paused to dress up and play Nativity. Adriana was Mary, James was Joseph and you guessed Thomas was the baby Jesus. James loves to role play and really gets into character. Anytime Mama called him James by mistake he would say "Mama I'm Joseph" or "She's Mary." They had fun dressing. We had a long photo shot but these are the best of the pictures.

It is always fun to dress up and it is a great way to remember it is still Christmas playing Nativity. If you have more than three children remember all the other characters present at the birth of Our Lord.
Mama had also planned the children opening a gift but Mama was not feeling well. Once Mama woke up James was already asleep so it was to late to open a gift. Daddy and Mama opened their last gifts once all the children were asleep. Daddy got Mama a beautiful Angle Kneeling Fontanini piece to had to her Nativity Collection.

The Tweleve Days of Christmas Niall Style

In our Family we like to celebrate the twelve days of Christmas. It is a christian traditions since Christmas really is twelve days (13 including the Epiphany). We will blogging about our family's 12 days Christmas tradition. We start counting December 26th as the 1st day of Christmas and the Epiphany as the 12th day of Christmas. Some people count Christmas as the 1st day and the Epiphany as a Feast day and give gifts because of the tradition of the Wise Man. In our family the children receive their biggest present on the Epiphany. We don't give gifts every day we just do one special activity every day. We only open one gift and our stocking on Christmas day. Other gifts if someone sent a present or if we got to some one's house. (ei. This year Uncle Nelson sent us a present and we went to Nana's house so we had lots of presents to open on Christmas day but last year we were home all day and got a gift from Mr. and Mrs. Daley.) Every year is different.

Below is an explanation of the real twelve days of Christmas and were it came from and what it really stands for adapted from http://www.crivoice.org/12days.html. Italic words are my words. This is disputed among many but weather it is true or false it is a good way to remember Christ at Christmas.

The Twelve Days of Christmas

<span class=

The twelve days of Christmas are not the twelve days before Christmas, but are instead the twelve days from Christmas until the beginning of Epiphany (January 6th; the 12 days count from December 25 until January 5), which is when the three Wise Men or Magi arrived on the scene.

In some families, it is and still is traditional to give Christmas gifts for each of those twelve days (or do something special), much as gifts are given to children on each of the days of Hanukkah. Some have suggested that the song "The Twelve Days of Christmas" is actually a song of instruction with hidden meanings to the basic teachings of the Faith. The "true love" mentioned in the song is not an earthly suitor, but refers to God Himself. The "me" who receives the presents refers to every baptized person who is part of the Christian Faith.

A Partridge in a Pear Tree
The partridge in a pear tree is Jesus Christ, the Son of God. In the song, Christ is symbolically presented as a mother partridge that feigns injury to decoy predators from her helpless nestlings, much in memory of the expression of Christ's sadness over the fate of Jerusalem: "Jerusalem! Jerusalem! How often would I have sheltered you under my wings, as a hen does her chicks, but you would not have it so . . . ." (Luke 13:34)

On the First Day of Christmas

The Bell Family was supposed to come to visit us on this first day of Christmas but the snow kept them away!!!! Instead we went to Barnes and Nobles as not to go to far from home. We are fortunate to have a Barnes and Nobles right across the street. At Barnes and Nobles Adriana and James were each able to choose a book and Mama and Daddy had a cup of coffee and we all shared a dessert.

They each got to pay for their books with the gifts cards Nana gave them for Christmas.

Daddy picking James up to pay for his book.

Mama also read them the James' book "Make way for Duckling" before went to coffee and dessert. Adriana's book choice was a children's tour book of Washington D.C. We are taking a trip to Washington D.C. in January.

More excitement at the Niall household included a surprise visit from Uncle Gary Thomas. Uncle Gary lives in New Jersey so he had not met his nephew Thomas yet. Uncle Gary feels a close connection to Thomas because his middle name is Thomas, only his family calls him Gary, and all of his friends in N.J. refer to him as Tom.

In New England you must be ready to change your 12 days of Christmas plans in necessary.

Today was also Daddy's feast day and he got to open a gift. He got a St. Stephan prayer card and a new scapular.

Happy Feast Day Michael Steven

St Stephen

Today is the Feast day of the first Stoned Apostle/Martyr Apostle.
Happy Feast Day Michael and all the other Stephen's out there!!

Presents from Buffalo

Presents to the children from Uncle Nelson. He did a great job and he is a young single guy. He even sent them in the mail, very impressive.

Thank you again, Uncle Nelson, the children loved them :)

Christmas Day

Christmas celebrated at the Niall home!

It is always nice to sleep in on Christmas day. I guess it you call 8 am sleeping in or 9 am for Daddy. When we woke up we sang Baby Jesus "Happy Birthday."

Then we place him in the stable with Mary and Joseph.

Some of us ate breakfast and the rest of us waited to open our stockings.

Then we opened our presents. At this point daddy had Mama open her present. If you haven't seen Mama's Christmas present hunt click here. Below is Adriana opening her Christmas present.

We are opening Uncle Nelson's Christmas presents. Thomas got a teddy bear!

Adriana and James are playing well together. They are putting a puzzle together.

Then after putting the finishing touches on dinner and running around trying to find all the gifts we needed to bring with us to Nana's house, (honestly I would get so much more do if I remembered where I put things) we left for Maine. Christmas dinner at Nana's house.

As you can see we call Nana "Santa!" (Not really, lol, but going to her house feels like a Santa trip.) She may overdo it a little!

A Calico Critter year!

Their favorite gifts!! But they loved them all!!!

Nana opens her gifts. She laughed, she cried - we moved her!!! She got a gift certificate to a restaurant she goes to often, a Memorial Mass card for her husband, and a few other little gifts but those were her favorites!

Thomas behaved this way most of the visit. He doesn't yet appreciate "Santa Nana!"
